We always tell others not to care about “what would people think”, yet we often fail to implement this for ourselves.

It’s a part of human nature, the desire to fit in and please everybody that we could.

A classic case:

You: I want to drop school and pursue music.

Parents: No, that’s insane, what would people think?

We all have heard the same line from our parents at least once, for some reason or the other.

At that time we don’t agree with our parents. We rebel and try to stick to only our decisions irrespective of others’ judgments.

But we make the same mistake as we grow up.

We let “people’s opinions” impact our decisions way too much.

Let’s get to the fundamentals of this issue, who are these people that are invisibly controlling our decisions?

It’s us, we are the people that we are scared of, yes. If I want to make some unconventional decision about my life then “you” are the people to judge me and vice-versa.

If we stop judging others only then we could get rid of this fear of others judging us.

In my life, I made some decisions that were not very conventional to people and that did not end up in a good way either but I do not regret them.

It wasn’t easy for me to look beyond “what people would think” about my decisions, but I chose to stick by myself. I realized that only I am to bear the brunt of my decisions so why shall I care about anybody else?

My decisions are my own, I shall only bear their brunt , so I decided NOT to let “what people would think” get in my way.

You see, “people” don't really care about you, they just need something to gossip about and make you doubt yourself, and unfortunately, most often they succeed in doing so.

We rely too much on the acceptance and appreciation of society for everything that we do. And if anybody decides to take the unconventional route then they are deemed as a rebel or as a fool.

We will always have such people in our lives, nearby, far away, or digitally, but the truth is that everybody is fighting their own battle, even the ones that judge others, fear being judged.

I see so many people, having great ideas about their work, their life, their relationships but are afraid to implement because they fear being judged by people, hence, they succumb.

So, whenever, you feel scared about “what would people think” just know, it’s not about you, it's about them.
